Queensland Women Has Highest Caesarean Rate in Australia

CaesareanA recent report has revealed that Queensland has the highest rates of caesarian births in Australia. The last 20 years have seen the greatest rise in the caesarean rates. As per the data the figure has risen from 19.5% in 1989 to
34% in 2009.

None of the other parts in Australia have witnessed such craze for caesarean surgeries. It has been reported that more than women, doctors should be held for such a rise as they are the ones who promote it as a safer option for child birth.

In return when they are being questioned then they provide such explanations like woman had risk from normal delivery, there were age concerns, women wants pain less delivery and expensive facilities at big hospital to conduct caesarean sections.

However, the main reason of concern is that women are not aware of its side effects. Professor Kruske who was involved in the making of report affirmed that woman should be well informed about the process they are choosing for their delivery. If they have decided to go for caesarean delivery then should be well informed about its pros and cons as it is not the doctor but the woman who as to bear its consequences.

Another reason for choosing caesarean is said to be older age of women as per Richard Kidd, who is President of Australian Medical Association Queensland. She said, "We're seeing more and more women who might be in their mid-to-late thirties, or even early forties who ... probably needed IVF to help them become pregnant”.

Kidd said that their age acts as a hurdle at the time when they have to push baby down during normal delivery. The State Government is trying to change the picture so more women could choose natural birth but it seems it would take time to reverse the percentage.
