Auckland Bans Smoking in Public, Cigarette Makers Fume

SmokingIt has been reported that a proposal for bringing a ban over smoking in the public area has been made by the Auckland Regional Public Health Service. It has been informed by the Chairwoman of Recreation and Heritage Forum, Sandra Coney that if the proposal is given green signal then the smokers won’t be allowed to smoke at parks, playgrounds, in the city centers and council-run events.

The aim of the proposal is to reduce the effect of second hand smoke. It has been found that kids by looking at the adult smokers learn to smoke. Therefore, it is believed that the proposal would help in reducing the number of kid smokers.

Ms. Coney for long has been trying hard to deal with the increased cases of smoke but until now no concrete step has been taken by the authorities concerned. However, Coney is hopeful that the proposal would do the wonders.

Ms. Coney was reported of saying, “I think when it comes to public places like plazas and streets we just need to put those ideas out and look at the degree of public support at whether you've got it right”. It has been reported that a large number of public is supporting the proposal as it is in the benefit of them.

Ms. Coney has assured that bans over smoking in the public won’t be forcefully imposed. But consent from the public would be taken before applying the ban. People have the right to live their life the way they wish to. If majority of the people are against the proposal then there are high chances of it being demolished. Smoking is hazardous for health as it causes life threatening diseases like lung cancer, heart diseases and mouth cancer. It is in the benefit for the people to quit smoking.
