Many Teenage Mothers Didn’t Think They Could Get Pregnant

http://topnews.net.nz/data/contraceptive.jpgIt was recently revealed in a new government study that many teenage girls aren’t aware of the fact that they might be heading towards pregnancy with their careless behavior.

The survey revealed that many teenage mothers, who had had unplanned babies said they had not taken contraceptives, simply because they never thought it could result in pregnancy. Teenagers are actually taking this entire subject very lightly.

This is apparently because the girls didn’t seem to think they could get pregnant the first time they had sex, or that they were still sterile, and wouldn’t conceive. It simply means that teenagers aren’t fully aware of what they are heading for. They don’t have their concepts about sex and conceiving clear. They need to be given more appropriate and open education about how and when is it possible to get pregnant.

Most teens also end up having unsafe sex because it’s as a result of wild partying, and they aren’t prepared for it. They have actually made sex so casual these days that people don’t tend to understand the impending risk of unwanted pregnancies and STDs that might be linked to it.

Teens need to be taught about the details of puberty, sex and the process of conceiving children. This needs to be braved otherwise more and more teenage girls will continue becoming mothers, because they thought they couldn’t conceive this young.

“This report underscores how much misperception, ambivalence and magical thinking put teens at risk for unintended pregnancy”, said Bill Albert, of the DC-based National Campaign to Prevent Teen and Unplanned Pregnancy, in Washington D. C.

There is need for better sex education to decrease the number of teenage mothers in the country; their concepts need to be made clear.
