America Fails To Achieve Screening Targets

America Fails To Achieve Screening TargetsAs per the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention and the National Cancer Institute report, Americans are not meeting the government cancer screening targets. The report also found that there is a lot of percentage difference between Asians and Hispanic groups in regard to cancer screenings.

As per the report, it has got revealed that 72.4% women have got breast screenings done where as 81% was the set target. In addition to it, 83% women are done with their cervical cancer screenings, but the actual target was 93% and 58.6% women got colorectal screening whereas 70.5% was the actual target.

Percentage for Asian people was even poor as only 64.1% got their breast screenings done, 75.4% came forth for cervical cancer and 46.9% for colorectal cancer.

Dr. Sallyann Coleman King, who is an epidemic intelligence service officer in CDC's Division of Cancer Prevention and Control said, "It is troubling to see that not all Americans are getting the recommended cancer screenings and that disparities continue to persist for certain populations. Screening can find breast, cervical, and colorectal cancers at an early stage when treatment is more effective".

As per the rules, the women who are between 50 and 74 are asked to get their mammogram done after two years. However, women who are between 21 and 65 should get breast cancer and cervical cancer tests done after every three years.

The report suggest that women are not following the rules and the ones who are not following it are women belonging to Asian and Hispanic community. In fact they are putting them into a big trouble as they are most vulnerable to all types of cancer. The report should act as a myth breaker for women so they should get aware of the danger.
