Scientists Detect Virus Mutation Method

Scientists Detect Virus Mutation MethodA research that has been published in the journal Science claims to have found out the way by which a virus evolves a new way to infect a person. As per a research team at Michigan State University, viruses continuously evolve new ways to attack the healthy cells of a person to make him sick. But, doctors and researchers are not able to detect it for years.

It is the first time that the researchers have described a way through which viruses evolved a novel way to infect people. The study researchers said that they studied a virus which is known as a lambda. It infects the gut bacterium Escherichia coli.

The study researchers said that they knew the conventional method of lambda attack. So, they set up an experiment in which the virus did not grab a single E. coli bacterium. After 15 days, they found that viruses have attacked E. coli using a new molecule known as OmpF. The study researchers said that it was the first time when Lambda has used such a way to enter the system.

One of the study researchers, Justin Meyer, of the biology laboratory, said that in order to confirm the procedure, they conducted the experiment over again and found same mutations.

It is said that the research would be quite useful at the time when a controversy is going on where two different research teams have created lethal version of H5N1 virus. As per federal advisory board, the key finding of the study have been concealed.

However, with this research it is said that the virus is capable of self mutation. So, there is no need to conceal the findings. The research team said that if both the research groups would not have created it then the bird flu virus would itself have done the mutations.
