Consumption of Tea in Large Chunks Curtails Risk of Heart Diseases

Heart-DiseasesA recent study has unveiled that consumption of black tea in large amounts every day could help in reduction of risk of heart disease. A team of researchers has analyzed and concluded that large amounts of tea taken each day could bring a considerable fall in the rate of reduction of heart ailments.

The team of researchers headed by Dr Jonathan Hodgson, at the University of Western Australia conducted a research on around hundred people between ages 35 to 75. It is being said that some of the people enrolled for the analysis were patients of high blood pressure. The participants were daily provided either with three cups of powdered black tea solids for a period of six months or with a flavour-matched non-tea placebo drink.

It has been told by the team that a regular cup of black tea has 150mg of polyphenols. And the drink given to the participants contained 429 milligrams of plant chemicals called polyphenols known for providing health benefits. Thus, they were consuming almost 8.58 cups of tea each day.

It was the observed by the researchers that those with a high blood pressure in the study were found to have reduced levels of blood pressure i. e. between two to three mm of mercury after six months. Thereby the team concluded that drinking eight cups of black tea on a daily basis could help in lowering down blood pressure levels, which means bringing high blood pressure to normal level, further helping to cut heart disease risks.

However, there are some limitations to the findings of the study as a dietician, Tracy Parker at the British Heart Foundation, said, "There is evidence that antioxidant properties in tea could provide heart health benefits but more research is required to better understand how tea may reduce blood pressure".
