A report has revealed that from the next school year, the US schoolchildren would be getting healthy wholesome meals. The Healthy Hunger-Free Kids Act has got green signal from President Barack Obama.
According to which, the schools would need to serve meals with double fold fruits, vegetables, whole wheat and multigrain breads and no meat in breakfast. The act is said to bring positive change in the diet of US children who are consuming more fat.
As per the official records gathered for the act has revealed that 90% US schoolchildren are obese as they have become waste bins for consuming meat and dairy surpluses. It also got revealed that only 15% children eat the recommended fruits and vegetables and one-third US children have become overweight.
This has led to increased heart problems and other health conditions which were earlier associated with age such as diabetes and stroke. The act would provide a needed change in the diet of US children. It is reported that some of the starts such as Hawaii, California, New York and Florida have already started such initiatives for school children.
The budget which was expected for this kind of diet is also not much, said Arizona State SenatorRich Crandall. He further affirmed that soon municipalities and states would be seen buying more fruit and whole grains and vegetables.
First lady Michelle Obama said, "As parents, we try to prepare decent meals, limit how much junk food our kids eat and ensure they have a reasonably balanced diet". She further affirmed that all their efforts get ruined if children consume unhealthy food from their school cafeterias.
President Barack Obama said that he is also expecting some positive change in the diet of children who are getting overweight with the time.
