It has been revealed in a recent study that Alzheimer’s disease is like a virus that tends to plague the entire brain, one part after another. The study that has been conducted on mice is of the view that the protein tau is the plague hat causes Alzheimer’s disease.
The researchers are of the view that inferring from this new development, there might soon be newer ways and methods devised for taming the Alzheimer’s scare. They further said that in a similar way Parkinson’s disease could also be tackled soon.
It is actually the tau filled cells that plague the cells of the brain and this sort of turns the lights dim for the brain. This is why one becomes slightly forgetful at first, and then the major symptoms of the disease sink in slowly.
So now the teams need to develop some medicine form, which could cut down or block the progression of the disease.
“Mostly we wanted to mimic the early stages of Alzheimer’s, because that could best give us some idea of where we could target therapeutically. And if we layer on an amyloid model, we may also be able to see interactions”, said Duff, who is a professor of pathology at the Columbia University Medical Center.
Being able to prevent dementia in the time to come will be a very positive step for the medical fraternity. There are thousands of people in the world, who are affected by the disease each year. It is also a reason for a number of deaths each year. It is important that there is more research and development done on the matter, and a proper cure and preventing program is developed for the same in the time to come, with the help of this study.
