Chiropractor Treatment Best for Neck Pain

Neck-PainA recent study carried out by a team of researchers from Northwestern Health Sciences University in Minnesota has revealed that the best way to treat neck pain is to perform some light exercises under the guidance of a qualified chiropractor.

The study that was published in the Annals of Internal Medicine unveiled that light exercises and treatment by a qualified chiropractor is the best way to get relief from neck pain. Supporting the study, the New Zealand Chiropractors' Association (NZCA) said that the study has truly unveiled that chiropractic treatment is best when it comes to treating neck pain.

Even, experts have said that neck pain requires an additional effort than just trying to treat it with pain relief drugs such as aspirin and ibuprofen. Many times, it has been seen that the pain in neck does not get relaxed and leads to other ailments.

In order to reach at the conclusion, the study researchers took 270 adults and depending on different types of neck pain, they were randomly divided into three groups. The first group was given chiropractic treatment, the second group was treated with pain relief drugs, while the third group was asked to attend chiropractor sessions and was told some light exercises for neck pain.

The practice continued for 12 weeks, and later assessment revealed that the group which was getting chiropractic treatment derived best results.

Though the last group, which was attending sessions and were performing exercises as per chiropractor guidelines, also showed improvement, no improvement was seen in the group taking medicines.

Dr. Hayden Thomas, who is a chiropractor and the spokesperson for the New Zealand Chiropractors' Association, said: “As a professional association we welcome evidence based care. The perception of pain is very subjective but the large number of patients in this study reduces the influence of social and cultural factors”.
