Let’s Celebrate “The Heart Truth Day” This Friday

Let’s Celebrate “The Heart Truth Day” This FridayOn February 3, 2012, the 10th anniversary of The Heart Truth Day will be celebrated. The day is also famous as the National Wear Red Day. On this particular eve, the officials focus on spreading awareness about heart diseases. It is believed that females are more prone to developing heart diseases as compared to men.

The Heart Truth campaign was launched on 2002 in America. The dress code, red, reminds women about the need of taking care of their heart. On this particular day, men and women both participate by wearing red shirt, skirt, tie, shoe, etc.

In most of the cases, heart diseases are diagnosed by people in the middle ages. However, it begins to affect the heart at a younger age. Poor eating habits and inactive lifestyle during childhood can lead to heart problems in future.

It has been informed by the American Heart Association that heart diseases is No. 1 killer of women. It has been found that many women tend to ignore early signs of heart problems like high blood pressure, difficulty in breathing, fatigue and chest pain.

In most of the cases, women believe that if they are slim they can’t be affected with heart problems. In one case, Georgia Brown, who had worked with Southern University, had to go through three heart bypass surgeries. She was slim and had a healthy lifestyle, but was still affected by heart disease.

She was surprised to know about her being affected by a heart disease. However, she is now doing fine and has urged women to keep a tab on their health and get tested. She was reported saying, “We have to get rid of the stereotype that you have to be obese to have something wrong with your heart. Have checkups and watch your diet”.
