There has been a rise in the shares of the Medivation firm, ever since they have made this announcement. They have risen by 22%. It happens to be the largest increase in a day. Also, it is the double of what they had incurred on the 3rd of November last year.

MDV3100 is the name of the drug, and firm is of the view that it is surely going to help people suffering from the disease.

“It's a big deal when you see this kind of survival benefit with a pill” that doesn't have a lot of side effects, “This trial exceeded its expectations both in terms of the efficacy and the safety”, said the firm in a recent statement.

There are trials going to be conducted for making sure that the drug is worthy enough, and so that it can be given out commercially for the use of people.

The drug, when it is approved shall have to face tough competition with the similar medicines prevailing in the drug market, like Zytiga, by Johnson and Johnson, which has already received approval from the FDA.

The firm is of the view that the new drug is efficient and doesn’t need to be used in combination with the prednisone steroid. It shall work towards blunting the growth of those hormones in the males that will help in the growth of the tumor, and will also cut down the binding of the tumor cells by blocking the testosterone levels.
