As per latest reports, it has been revealed that connectivity and accessibility are the two factors that are drawing more people towards Facebook. Among this mad race, India is not far behind and holds second position when it comes to Facebook's growth rate in India. However, Brazil was at the top position in 2011.
India comes at third position after US and Indonesia with 34.6 million users when it comes to Facebook's largest markets. The growth rate is going to increase at an enormous rate in future as well, predicted analysts.
Samir Parikh, who is Chief Psychiatrist at department of Mental Health and Behavioural Sciences, Max Healthcare, told that India is an exception in the list. The trend of getting hooked to social networking sites in India is quite recent and has come with the advancement in technology and primarily due to wide internet accessibility.
All other countries have always been ahead of India in terms of using internet. In India, only elite people used to have internet connection, but they also used it for their work. It is only now, when technology has developed and has reached to masses that people have started using internet for various other means.
Parikh said, "The growth of Facebook has been universal across the globe. In India, the higher growth rates come from the much recent increase in accessibility of internet".
Some of the avid Facebook users have different reasons to use the site. Yogesh Kumar told that all his friends have Facebook account, so it acts as a common link between them. He keeps getting to know what is happening in their lives and vice versa.
Though there are other social networking options like Google Plus and Orkut, they do not stand anywhere in comparison to Facebook.
