Amateur Tattoos Can Inspire Hepatitis C, Claims StudyIn case you're thinking about getting a tattoo on your body, then it’s highly important for you to ensure that you do it through a professional only and must strictly avoid getting tattoo from a peer since a recently released report has claimed that ink work done by amateurs can lead to an increased risk of Hepatitis C.

In this regard, a recently conducted study, which was carried out by researchers from the U. S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), has revealed that tattoos done by non-professionals or unskilled people generally have a strong tendency of increasing the threat of a probable blood-borne liver contagion. During the course of their study, the researchers analyzed reports compiled by a large number of studies conducted earlier in the same context.

While expressing her opinion regarding the entire issue along with mentioning the consequences these tattoos can have on the human health, the lead researchers of the study who works as an epidemiologist with the CDC, Rania Tohme, wrote in an email: “Tattoos and piercings can transmit hepatitis C and other infections if performed under non-sterile conditions. People should not have tattoos or piercings done by friends or by people who are not trained professionals”.

On the contrary, there is still no proven report that tattoos made by professionals also involve similar threats, and therefore people must only seek professional help in case they are willing to get one done on their body.

Hepatitis C is still one of the most widespread diseases in the US with around 75 to 85% of individuals infected with the said ailment go on to fell prey to a variety of chronic infections which can easily pave their way towards a number of critical ailments such as those in the likes of liver cancer and cirrhosis.

The findings of the study have been made available in the recent edition of the journal Clinical Infectious Diseases.
