Making an immensely important and frightening claim, a report released recently by the Department of Health has revealed that an average Irish adult drinks around one bottle of vodka every week, which piles up a massive and extremely dangerous 482 pints of lager on a yearly basis.
In addition, it was claimed that in excess of 1.5 million individuals are drinking over the safe recommended limits and are therefore spiking up their odds of falling prey to a variety of life-threatening ailments, including the likes of cardiovascular disease, heart ailments and cancer.

But still, a huge question is still in picture in terms of the future of the report as James Reilly, the Health Minister, was not present at the launch and the point was admitted by Roisin Shortall, the Junior Minister, before the end of the press conference organized for the launch event.
Alcohol abuse reportedly costs nearly 88 lives every month and it also tends to spike up the odds of a person falling prey to 60 critical medical conditions. The related ailment cost is more than €1.2bn yearly.
While expressing his opinion regarding the findings of the report, along with mentioning the harmful consequences of binging over alcohol, one of the study researchers and member of the National Advisory Committee on Drugs
(NACD), Denis Bradley, said that, “It is a hot political potato. A lot of the recommendations were made before, and governments walked away from them”.
The further shed light on the verity that a large number of people in the group were of the view that minimum pricing must be brought into play.
