Parents Lash Out At NHS Health Experts over Secretive Scheme

teenage-pregnanciesWhile parents send their kids for getting educated in schools, they could have never imagined in the worst of their dreams that their doting daughters would be made part of some secret scheme to reduce teenage pregnancies.

It’s hard to imagine in the first place, but this is what most of the parents of girls of age 13 or 14 are experiencing. It was done as a part of an initiative in Southampton to combat Britain's high rate of teenage pregnancies. It was sheer disgust to know that kids were made inserted with contraceptive implants under their skin without the consent of parents. This revelation has brought the moral character of the schools and the health experts under the scanner.

"I feel really angry about this. I agree that teaching teenagers about sexual health and contraception is very important but this is a step too far”, said one mother when she came to know that her 13-year-old had been given the implant.

There are many like her who have come to know how their daughters have been made part of the scheme. Though there is no doubt that Britain has one of the highest rates of underage pregnancy in Europe, such moves to get the results can never be supported.

It was told that the scheme, in place since 2009, has been able to reduce the under-16 pregnancies in the city. However, this is yet to be figure out how many girls at the nine secondary schools have been actually made part of the scheme

It is actually irresponsible on the part of the NHS experts in Southampton to have performed such act in the name of addressing a national concern. While the authorities claim that parents were sent letter about the same, there is complete denial about the same from the other end.
