Path Hampers Privacy of Users’ Contact Info

pathAn up-to-date report has revealed that Path has hindered the privacy of its users, which has given rise to condemnation on blogs and social media forums this week. It has been found that Path has uploaded users' address book data on to its servers, which has become an illegal and inacceptable matter.

As per the report findings, Path, which is a fledgling social network, has swiped users’ private information containing address books on its own servers, though it knew the act was wrong. It is being said that Path is now making apologies to users for making such an attempt.

It has been found by the report that Path was being questioned previously also for the way it handled the users’ address books. However, it did not hold or steal any information of users then, as claimed by Path. Also, CEO and co-founder of Path, Dave Morin asserted that Path never stores any kind of users’ information.

But, the report this time has shown that Path has thwarted users’ privacy and has now been owing apologies for making users uneasy with their way of using their phone contacts. In addition, defenders of Path have been affirming that Path is fully committed to privacy of its users. It is only the new version of Path that is creating issues.

Dave Morin has further claimed that all the uploaded contact information of users has been deleted by Path now, which shows their commitment towards user privacy. Besides, Path is expecting its users to forgive the violation by it and continue to use its services.

Taking into consideration the act of Path and privacy changes by varied other forums like Facebook and Apple's app, experts suggest, "It is better to ask permission now, than to beg forgiveness later".
