Obama Faces Criticism From Catholic Leaders for Contraception Rule

ContraceptionA report has uncovered recently that health care rule on birth control introduced by President Barack Obama is being criticized by Roman Catholic bishops saying the rule tends to raise moral concerns in the nation.

It has been found by the report that the President had announced the rule requiring offering free birth control coverage to workers, for which insurers would be responsible. The rule was made so as to accommodate religious organizations. But, the rule is being opposed by his republican foes, Catholic Church leaders, who say that it lacks behind to provide protections for certain employers and insurers.

Obama’s aim behind the rule has been overshadowed by the outrage shown by insurers and Catholic bishops. According to the findings of the report, the President’s compromise was aimed to provide birth control coverage to women working in any organization, without any payment from them.

However, the controversy that arose after his announcement tended to overshadow his agenda behind the compromise and made him feel uneasy. He then felt the need to change the rule and find some other way to promote the coverage for contraceptives. Insurers were claiming that the burden if put on them could set an example of shifting cost its way.

Republicans were completely found against Obama and Newt Gingrich showed ferocity saying, “I frankly don't care what deal he tries to cut. ... If he wins re-election, he will wage war on the Catholic Church the morning after he's re-elected". Church leaders had a strong opinion that the rule did not respect religious freedom, says the report.

Thus, the policy has now been decided to be given a review and the insurance companies would be called to discuss thereon, told Robert Zirkelbach, a spokesman for the America's Health Insurance Plans trade group.
