Though London is the slimmest part of the country, the average BMI across the UK is “overweight” category.

BMI can be defined as the ratio of weight in comparison to height. One out of every four adults in British is obese. And if their eating habits are not controlled now, then many of them may grow corpulent in the coming years.

A health campaign is planned by Slimming World which will aim at turning the tide of increasing obesity and will urge people to tackle their expanding waistlines. People who are obese are more prone to diseases like diabetes, heart disease and stroke.

Dr Jacquie Lavin, Slimming World's head of nutrition and research, said, "Clearly obesity is a national problem but the causes are often closer to home and most of us recognize that our lifestyle and the environment we live in are at least, partly to blame. Being overweight is increasingly a worry for many of us and for our families and children".
