Google and Yahoo have joined two Australian organizations, taking every measure to stop Communications Minister Stephen Conroy from filtering the Australian web traffic.
The Australian government has announced proposals to form a mandatory filter which would restrict all RC (Refused Classification) content.
The giants warn that the filters will not "effectively protect children". In addition, they claim this is due to hardcore material, specifically that featuring children, tends to appear on chat rooms and networks which are more difficult to filter.
The statement on the ALIA website post that a report about government trials of the filter addresses the strain of filtering sites with very high traffic.
Ms. Hutley cautions that the current filter proposals would develop a untrue sense of security for Australian web users.
"We are directing our support for national cyber safety education and increased funding for policing", she added.
On 10 and 11 February an activist group called Anonymous attacked several official Australian government websites in protest, taking them offline for short periods of time.
