The material used in 40% of homes which are fitted with insulation under the Government's multi-billion-dollar home insulation scheme, is of poor quality.
A series of tests have been conducted on a range of imported insulation products, mainly fiberglass insulation by the Polyester Insulation Manufacturers Association of Australia, which found out that only two had met the thermal resistance standards.
"Around 30-40 per cent of houses, in my belief, have not adhered to the R-values, so there is no value in the insulation in these homes", said Mr. Zuzul (from Polyester Insulation Manufacturers Association of Australia). It represented shameful waste of taxpayers' money.
On the other hand, the President of the Aluminum Foil Insulation Association, Mr. Brian Tikney, revealed the fact that all insulation products, including the foil, should be suspended from the federal program as about four people died in the last 10 months due to the same.
It is a serious matter of concern, as cheap and inferior overseas insulation material is available in abundance in the market which can pose danger to anybody's life.
As the number of installers increase, it has become very difficult to predict the fate of these workers, once the program ends for good.
