The Auckland Transition Agency formally launched a competition which will engage the Aucklanders to design a new logo to signify their new Supercity, to rule them all.
Celebrities from the world of art and fashion like Karen Walker and Dick Frizzell, will be judging the entries.
"Anyone that can draw, print, scribble with crayon, pencil, pen, computer can go for this", said Head Judge, Waitakere Mayor Bob Harvey.
The logo will be used on all manner of everyday items throughout Auckland, be it a street sign , a letter head, a van, or a train. This way, it will become the most widely known logo in the country. It may be able to inculcate a feeling of patriotism among the people of Auckland.
On being asked about the features of a good logo, they replied it should be persuasive, elegant and precise, as also mentioned in the official guidelines on competition material. Something potent, that influences minds of all and sundry.
"A simple, assertive, identifier", said Arts Doyen Hamish Keith. "It has to be instantly recognizable. It has to say Auckland".
