Gallup Daily tracking analysis underlines the fact that the health insurance coverage in U. S varies widely by age and income.
The analysis is made on the basis of 353,849 interviews conducted among adults, aged 18 and older, in about 50 states including Columbia in 2009, as part of the Gallup-Healthways Well-Being Index. It helped a lot to know the health insurance status of the Americans. 16.2% of all Americans did not have health insurance.
84% have health insurance among 18 year and older. Americans, who are in their early 20s state that they have some other source of health insurance. This means that they are covered under either their parents’ plan or are under college or school coverage. The Government-paid and other insurance sources escalate among Americans aging 50 and above.
Health insurance coverage also depends upon income. The Americans with high income tend to have their health insured. But these who have low incomes are less likely to have health insurance, even if they are 65 and above.
Low incomes Americans who fall in the age group of 27 to 37 do not have health insurance.
Lindsey Tucker, health reform policy manager with Healthcare For All, Boston says,” Individuals who are unable to afford health insurance right now because they make a little bit too much more than the subsidy we can give them, they will be able to receive subsidies from the federal government”.
