A woman, 63, who ate calamari, was hospitalized after suffering a sudden severe pain in the oral cavity of her mouth, as per a recent report published recently in the Journal of Parasitology.
It has been found that woman, who is a resident of South Korea, was however having a cooked squid, she suffered from a similar condition found in a previous case in December last year, in which a person had eaten a raw squid.
However, doctors first detected the bug-like organisms, which were making a foreign-body sensation in her mouth, as 'squid spermatophores'. These are cups of semen, which implant into the skin.
But, later the same were discovered as 'baby cephalopods', small pods that stick with the help of their coverage in a cement-like material. It is being said that the pods carry a sperm and an 'ejaculatory apparatus', which exerts force on the sperm.
As per the findings, the small, white spindle-shaped sperms were twelve in number, attached to her cheek, mucous membrane of the tongue and gingival (gums).
Though these have been taken out successfully, it is being suggested by experts that one should consume a squid's muscle only and should remove the internal organs.
