If you suffer from lower back pain then group therapy can definitely prove to be a cost-effective way of treating your pain.
Reports stated that participants who were put to test while taking therapy for six one-and-a-half-hour sessions still showed improvements a year later.
About 701 patients who were taking part in the study received general advice on how to remain active and they were asked to avoid bed rest and take pain medication.
While a control group received no further intervention, about 468 people were given assessment individually and six sessions of cognitive behavioural therapy (CBT) in groups of eight.
While the therapy was on people spoke and discussed beliefs about doing physical activity, relaxation, and countering negative thoughts.
The questionnaires that were designed to measure pain and disability state that people who took the therapy performed much batter.
For the six sessions the treatment costed about £187, which was very cheap.
The study, led by Professor Sarah Lamb, at the University of Warwick, found, "Compared with advice alone, advice plus cognitive behavioural intervention was associated with significant benefits in nearly all outcomes. Effective treatments that result in sustained improvements in low-back pain are elusive."
