World Suicide Prevention Day Aims At Reducing Suicidal Rates

World Suicide Prevention Day Aims At Reducing Suicidal RatesThe World Health Organization has set Monday as World Suicide Prevention Day, which will be reminder for all that they have to deploy certain measures and actions to decrease suicidal rates.

Figures revealed by the WHO affirm that every day as many as 3,000 people commit suicides. National Institute of Mental Health exclaims that suicides are the 10th main cause of deaths in the US.

Dr. Lalit S. Chaube, Medical Director of New Horizons of the Treasure Coast, asserts that there are several reasons, due to which a person might end up taking their own lives. He said, “Suicidal behavior is a complex bio-psychosocial phenomenon and it consists of suicidal ideations, suicidal intentions, suicidal plans and suicide attempts. It is important to distinguish between active suicidal behavior and para suicidal behavior”.

A victim of active suicidal behavior will kill oneself, while in case of para-suicidal behavior, one will only harms oneself and not kill. People, who are simply left with no hope in life, find themselves a failure and find it hard to sustain in life, commit suicide.

Most of the people commit suicide due to emotional and mental health concerns. However, 20% of those having suicidal behavior actually don’t have any such concerns.

Any drastic change administered in the behavior of a person needs to be checked immediately, they need proper intervention.
