H’bad company gets go ahead for antibiotic drug

AurobindoAn announcement about getting approval from Canada for an antibiotic drug has come from Aurobindo Pharama, a Hydrabad-based company.

Being a generic version of GlaxoSmithKline's Ceftin Tablets, the tablet is called Cefuroxime Axetil Tablets. The drug according to reports would be marketed in 25 mg and 50 mg sizes. People who suffer from mild to moderate infections are treated with Ceftin Tablets.

This is Aurobiondo's eighth approval from Health Canada. The company markets its products in about 125 countries having an inetnational market base. Several regularoty agencies have approved its manufacturing facilities and these agencies are from from US, Canada, Brazil and South Africa.

Both generic medicines and active pharmaceutical ingredients are manufactured by Aurobindo. Apart from antibiotics, Aurobindo has products across different areas of medicine like anti-allergins, anti-retrovirals, gastro-enterologicals, cardiovascular drugs.

The share of Aurobindo went up by Rs 15.85 following the announcement.
