U.S. Census Bureau is still hiring

US-Census-BureauTo help complete the 2010 census in Pike County the U. S. Census Bureau is still hiring census takers.

According to a 2010 census recruiter Johnny Gibson, the number of employees needed is dependent on the response the census bureau sees.

He added, “We won’t know how many census takers will be needed until after the census forms have been mailed. But these will be good temporary jobs.”

Enumerators or census takers will conduct personal interviews of those who are unable to return the questionnaires that were sent to the residents by the U. S. Census Bureau.

The bureau informed that these temporary employees will be working on a flexible timing or over the weekends when the public is typically home.

According to the Census 2010 website census takers near Montgomery can expect to earn $12.25 per hour.

Marsha Gaylard, president of the Pike County Economic Development Corporation, said, “The census is important to accounting in many different ways. We give that information out as demographics to industries and especially retailers. When we’re trying to get grants, we fall into categories. We can score higher when applying for grant funds if we can show we’re in a low-income area for instance.”

For being eligible to be a census-taker, you have to posses the United States citizenship and must be a legal permanent resident of the US or a non-citizen with an appropriate work visa. Bilingual skills are also needed.
