Experts not clear about ‘had sex’

sexA new study conducted by the Kinsey Institute at Indiana University, stated that researchers could not find clearly what does ‘had sex’ mean.

The results were based on a random survey conducted by the institute and they questioned about 204 men and 282 women living in Indiana over the telephone. Those questioned were aged from 18 to 96. Most of them were heterosexual.

About 95 per cent stated that having sex means penile-vaginal intercourse, about 11 per cent felt that if there is no ejaculation then it was not sex, 30 per cent said that oral sex was not sex, 20 per cent felt that having anal sex was not sex, 23 per cent of men older than 65 years of age said penile-vaginal intercourse was not sex.

Dr William L. Yarber, a co-author of the study said, "There's a vagueness of what sex is in our culture and media. If people don't consider certain behaviors sex, they might not think sexual health messages about risk pertain to them. Misclassification can cause some problems in interpersonal relationships, too -- if you know what I mean.”
