March is being celebrated as the nutrition month and it is the perfect time to talk to your kids if they think that peas come from freezer and tomatoes from a can.
The theme for the year is ‘Celebrate Food, From Field to Table’. It focuses on the celebration of nutritious food from where it is grown and how it comes to your dining table.
Ida Chong, Minister of Healthy Living and Sport, said, “Nutrition Month provides an opportunity to learn about how to eat healthy, while supporting community-based food programs such as local food gardens. Through programs like B. C.’s Community Food Action Initiative we are supporting a variety of projects that increase a community’s ability to grow and develop locally grown food.”
A trend has been seen among people as they prefer eating fresh rather than food stored using preservatives. As there are a variety of foods that lose their nutrition by the time they come to your kitchen shelf and it is one reason why eating locally grown food makes sense.
