NZL Group Ltd, through its subsidiary, Sulphur Point Container Terminal Ltd has submitted a proposal to set up a container terminal at the Port of Tauranga.
The firm assured to complete the project by next year, generating a lot of employment opportunities in the state.
NZL Group director, Ken Harris, said, "It is very hard to give good conditions and decent employment. In a terminal setting we will actually be able to generate a good range of permanent jobs and invest in skills."
However, the Port Company termed NZL's plans very immature and advised it to resolve all disputes before making such announcements. It maintained that the matter can be resolved through court.
However, NZL said that it wants to settle the issue through dialogue and it is seeing opportunities out side the court.
Mr Harris said, "I expect it will be good for Bay of Plenty, an area that has shown the way in terms of port efficiency."
