The Food and Drug Administration in the United States reveals that the hydrolyzed vegetable protein, produced by Nevada’s Basic Food Flavors, Inc., has been found contaminated with salmonella.
The Canadian Food Inspection Agency has recalled 94 items in United States and 4 items have been recalled from Canada.
Hydrolyzer vegetable protein, a flavor enhancer, has been added to various processed foods, following chips, dips, salad dressings, sauces, hotdogs, soups and frozen dinners.
No illness complaints have been received yet because of the recalled products. The risk is higher for uncooked processed food like chips as compared to cooked food.
Federal authorities reveal that Salmonella is the main cause of infectious diseases among young children and others, which can result in weakening of the body immune systems.
Senior Vice-President of Regulatory Affairs at the Food and Consumer Products of Canada Derek Nighbor revealed that the Canadian food producer is working to implement strict safety rules in the world, and to make sure that all contaminated foodstuffs have been removed from the market.
