According to an LA Times report, the last-week-ousted Infinity Ward chiefs Jason West and Vince Zampella have signed on with the Creative Artist Agency (CAA) – which is the foremost talent agency in Hollywood.
The LA Times also reported some other agency, apart from the CAA, too was looking to hire West and Zampella.
The somewhat strange career move by the ex-Infinity Ward heads - who were unceremoniously dismissed by Activation, against whom they have filed a lawsuit alleging breach of contract - either indicates a transformation of the video game developers-hiring scenario, or marks a well-thought-out career decision by the ‘Call of Duty’ creators.
As per the report, hardly any developers are represented by agencies like the CAA, which largely represent the bigwigs - Tom Hanks, Simon Cowell, Justin Timberlake, and the NFL's Manning brothers – from the world of movies, TV, music, and sports.
Unlike the gaming industry, in which game developers are generally full-time employees of a studio, and have no representation; the job of the agents and managers basically pertains to negotiating deals between studios and talent in the film and television industry.
As such, the intriguing move by West and Zampella is a clear indication of the fact that the gaming industry is being given a due consideration by Hollywood – as is also evident from the increasing number of video game film adaptations in recent years.
