Ford unveils its new faster, safer and stronger Police Interceptor

FordWith Ford phasing out its three-decade old Crown Victoria police car model, the automaker’s new police patrol car - the ‘Police Interceptor’ based on Ford’s 2010 Taurus model - was unveiled on Friday at the Las Vegas Motor Speedway event, which was attended by fleet buyers as well as law enforcement officials.

Going by the information forwarded by the Ford executives, the new Police Interceptor is not only faster, stronger, safer and more durable than its 1983-launched Crown Victoria predecessor; but also boasts advanced technological improvements for better overall performance.

The newly-unveiled Ford police car, the price of which remains undisclosed, can reportedly accelerate two-fold faster than the Crown Victoria model, and can easily clear curbs, and endure a rear-end crash at 75 mph.

The new cop car features “stab plates” that offer protection to the driver and front-seat passenger; ‘cutouts’ on the seats to easily- accommodate the narrower police-issue utility belts; and bigger trunk to accommodate equipment.

While the gear shifter is fitted on the steering column for allowing 9-inch free space between the front seats for equipment; the rear door panels of the new car can be flung 10 degrees farther, than a regular Taurus’ panels.

At the car’s unveiling event, Mark Fields, Ford’s president of the Americas, said: “We hope that you will agree that Ford has succeeded in delivering the ultimate new police interceptor.”
