Twitter founder unveils the site’s new “@anywhere” feature at SXSW

TwitterWith the recent unveiling of Twitter’e new “@anywhere” feature, the identities of the Twitter users will follow them across the Web – allowing them access to their accounts on the microblogging site from third party sites!

The “@anywhere” feature, which is quite similar to Facebook Connect and Google Friend Connect, was unveiled by the Twitter founder Ecan Williams, before the attendees at the South by Southwest (SXSW) festival.

Going by the official blog post about “@anywhere,” the newly-unveiled service will help recreate the Twitter kind of “open, engaging interactions” among users, by incorporating them into any Web site via Javascript; thereby “providing a new layer of value for visitors without sending them to Twitter. com.”

While introducing “@anywhere” at the SXSW, Williams stopped short both of providing further details of the feature as well as showing screenshots of what it will look like; and merely showed a few logos of partners including eBay, Digg and Yahoo!

However, the description of the new feature underlines its ability to enable the readers of the articles on The New York Times and other sites to click and follow writers directly from their bylines.

Furthermore, Twitter's VP of communications Sean Garrett said in an email that @anywhere “will initially provide sign-in and sign-up capabilities, hovercard integration, the ability to present curated suggested user lists and other means to experience Twitter without leaving a participating site.”
