In an attempt to further its incision into Microsoft domination, Google has launched a new server-side tool - Google Apps Migration for Microsoft Exchange – which will allow companies to move e-mail, calendar and contact data from Microsoft Exchange to Google Apps.
Going by a Wednesday blog post by Abhishek Bapna, product manager for Google Apps, the new tool boasts the capability of simultaneous migration of hundreds of users into the ‘cloud’; while also allowing users to keep using Exchange during the migration process.
As per the information forwarded on Google’s Enterprise Blog, the four-step-long migration works fairly fast to bring in the information that the users select. In case the data is far too much to be imported at one time, the migration process also features an option to bring in the data in phases.
The blog also specified that the new Google data migration tool – which is free for the existing subscribers of the Google Apps Premier and Education edition - works with both hosted as well as on-premise Microsoft Exchange
2003 or 2007.
The launch of the new Exchange migration tool by Google, over and above the company’s recent acquisition of DocVerse – a firm that enabled Microsoft Office users to edit their documents collaboratively on the Web -, is a clear indication that Google is endeavoring to entice small businesses to “go Google.”
