A study by Vinexpo declares that the consumption of red wine in India has increased over the past two years.
The report approximates that out of a total of 1.45 million cases that were opened; 1.05 million cases were of red wine, 395,000 cases of white wine, leaving 13,000 cases of Rosé wine. India is high on the consumption of red wine.
The report also predicts that in 2013, the consumption of wine will grow by 97.15% comprising 2.869 million cases.
The forecast is very sanguine. There are a few discrepancies since the figures given by the leading wine producers in India vary. Though all producers place red wines on the top of the consumption figures the percentages of consumption differ with each producer.
Rajeev Samant, CEO and owner of Sula Vineyards states that the consumption figures for red, white and Rose` wine are 71.96%, 27.15% and 0.89% respectively. Grover Vineyards estimates that 60% of their wines sold are reds, with 34% whites and around 5-6% Rosé.
Though these figures differ, the generic opinion is that India has definitely gone red in the past years.
