On Sunday morning a taxi driver was attacked in Tauranga District, overnight.

According to Detective Brian Dudley the driver had collected his taxi fare in the CBD at about 3a. m.

The passenger asked the driver to drive him to Darraghs Road in Brookfield. There, the driver was assaulted and robbed where he lost his entire cash and personal valuables.

It’s said, on Monday the man will present himself in the Tauranga District Court, charged with stealing after a brutal assault on a taxi driver on Sunday morning.

The driver was found with face and head wounds, he was taken to Tauranga Hospital where he is still in a stable but serious condition.

Radio New Zealand received information from Tauranga Hospital that the driver was given treatment but did not have to be admitted.
