Smoking in outdoor café and restaurant areas has been banned by another Sydney metropolitan council.
From 2011, the local councils have decided to make all café alfresco areas in its jurisdiction smoke-free.
This decision has been taken after Waverley Council last week decided to make alfresco areas smoke-free.
National Heart Foundation chief executive Tony Thirlwell said, "We urge all NSW councils to follow in the footsteps of Leichhardt Council."
Residents and visitors of Leichhardt, which is a dinning strip, can really enjoy the great coffee and this is because the area is known for enjoying a cuppa without choking on secondhand smoke.
According to a survey conducted by the Heart Foundation, almost two thirds or 65 per cent of Sydney councils had introduced some form of smoke-free policy as of May 2009. Alfresco areas have been added now by Leichardt to its smoke-free playgrounds and sporting fields.
