Awareness on TB spread

TBAwareness on Tuberculosis is being spread by Toronto Public Health and community partners on World TB Day. The World Health Organization stated that in 2007, Tuberculosis had 9.2 million cases worldwide and 1.3 million deaths took place.

About 259 cases of TB were dealt in Toronto alone in 2008. A majority of these cases were from those who came from countries that have TB as a common condition.

Toronto Public Health will have a forum that will help update health care and public service providers about TB this year. Displays at civic centres across Toronto will be seen that will have information regarding TB.

Dr Elizabeth Rea, Associate Medical Officer of Health with Toronto Public Health said, “Tuberculosis is still very much an issue in Toronto. World TB Day enables us to forge new partnerships and work with our existing partners to reach those most affected by this devastating disease, and to let people in our community know how to prevent and treat it. Together, we can stop TB.”
