A website has been launched by the Australian Medical Association Queensland (AMAQ) that will have details regarding waiting times and bed occupancy about hospitals in Queensland.
The website is called ‘Your Hospital's Health’ and it is the latest salvo in the AMAQ's ‘war on waste’ campaign.
The website would be based on statistics released quarterly by the State Government and would include details that are unpublished based on bed occupancy rates.
AMAQ president Dr Mason Stevenson says hospitals in Mackay, Cairns, Caloundra, Redcliffe, and Caboolture have occupancy rates above 100 per cent.
He asked, "How can a hospital operate when we have greater than 100 per cent occupancy?"
According to AMAQ, in public hospitals about 450 beds are needed immediately. An extra $1.5 billion of health funding in the budget should be committed by the State Government.
Health Minister Paul Lucas informed that there were plans of delivering another 1,700 beds.
He said, "If the AMA want to have a website, that's fine, if that's a way to recruit members that's fine, but the Queensland Government provides more information than other states and will continue to provide more."
