Due to an increase in the usage of indoor tanning beds by youngsters, fresh rules have been put into practice in order to lessen its usage. From now, new taxes would be levied on the indoor tanning beds.
A recommendation from the Food and Drug Administration advisory board, on Thursday, stated that the agency must consider actions, for example, the teens must get permission from their parents prior to using the tanning beds.
The board also advised tanning lamps be classed under Class 2 equipment from Class 1.
Under Class 1 medical equipments, tongue depressors and elastic bandages are included.
Almost 35% of girls belonging to the age group of 17 make use of tanning machines. For anyone who is less than 30 years old, the risk involved increases by 75%, as per the International Agency for Research on Cancer, affiliated to the WHO.
The Federal Trade Commission also has been trying to cut down on the promotion of indoor tanning. In the month of January, the agency accused and charged the Indoor Tanning Association with building fake health and protection claims in its commercials. The association approved that it would stop advertising the commercials.
