FDA Warns Consumers against Intake of Raw Milk

FDA Warns Consumers against Intake of Raw MilkThe FDA along with Midwestern state health agencies has advised the consumers regarding their consumption of unpasteurized raw milk. A threat from campylobacteriosis prompted the agencies to take the step.

Recently, 12 cases of the raw milk illness came into the notice of The Michigan Department of Community Health. The cases were reported on March 24. The information about the cases was disclosed to the media in an announcement.

There is a high probability in raw milk to contain a large variety of contagious bacteria like Salmonella and E. Coli, which may result in illness or death of the consumer.

According to a report published regarding Clinical Infectious Diseases, the dairy disease is a threat to human health and has the tendency to cause vomiting, fever, headache and body ache.

The effect of the dairy disease will vary from person to person, in which some may revive instantly but for some, it may result into severe reactions. It can be more dangerous for pregnant women, old people, children and patients with weak immunity. The FDA has issued rules for strict pasteurization of all the packaged dairy products.

The FDA said, "There is no meaningful nutritional difference between pasteurized and raw milk, and raw milk does not contain compounds that will kill harmful bacteria".
