Lower Risk of Type 2 Diabetes Seen in Women who Breast Feed

Lower Risk of Type 2 Diabetes Seen in Women who Breast Feed From the new studies, it has been seen that symptoms of type 2 diabetes are seen less in women who breast feed their children.

Researches show that more than 53,000 women in the age group of 45 or older have diabetes whether they have children or they don’t. But it has been that each year the risk for diabetes is decreasing by 14 percent in women who breast feed their children.

But it has not been proved in the journal Diabetes Care that beast feeding protects women from getting diabetes.

Dr. Bette Liu, who is a researcher in the University of Western Sydney, said that as compared to women who bottle feed their children, reduction of diabetes is seen in women who breastfeed their children.

An email showed that in another research, it was seen that the women who never had a child had more chances of getting diabetes than the women who never breastfed their children.

"It appears that having children increases the chances of women developing type 2 diabetes in later life, but breastfeeding can reduce this risk to the same level as that of women who have never had children", said Lui.

Breast feeding helped the women to maintain their blood sugar level and reduce the risk of getting diabetes.

Lui also said that women should remember that breastfeeding has benefits for their babies as well as for their own health.
