At the People's Choice NetGuide Web Awards night, the award for "Best Game Related Site" was won by Gameplanet. The Awards night ceremony took place at the Westin hotel in Auckland.
It should be noted that online votes from the public, in a range of different categories, helped in determining the award winners and more than 130,000 votes were recorded in this year's awards.
Gameplanet said: "It's a huge honour to be recognized with this award and our thanks go out to all our community members who showed their support by voting for us. A big thank you goes also to all our volunteer writers, moderators and admins; without whose generous contributions and support Gameplanet could not exist."
"This confirms our position as New Zealand's number one web site for gamers," it added.
It should be mentioned that in the last three years - 2008, 2007 and 2006 - Gameplanet won the "Best Games Site" award; and in 2002, it won "Best Youth Site" award.
There were other winners too at Choice NetGuide Web Awards - Mighty Ape won "Best Online Shopping Site" and the "Best New Site, Relaunch or Innovation" award, apart from being a finalist for the overall "Site of the Year" award (won by Trade Me).
