After a positive case in Gladstone, a ‘search and destroy mission’ has been prompted by Queensland Health against the Dengue Fever carrying mosquito in the city.
A local resident has been tested positive for an unknown type of dengue after he returned from an overseas holiday recently.
Residents are being urged by the Queensland Health to clear places where there are possibilities of water to gather.
Door to door inspections and working in ‘hotspots’ to try and reduce numbers of the carrier mosquito, Paul Florian, director of environmental health services for Central Queensland Public Health Unit, was in Gladstone today working with Gladstone Regional Council staff.
He said, "Dengue mosquitoes only breed around homes and in urban areas, and not in swamps or creeks. I would like to stress that there is currently no outbreak as we have no locally-acquired cases, and that we have numerous dengue imports into Australia throughout the year.”
