The rabbit-loving community has recently raised an organized uproar criticizing the so-called ‘Easter Bunny’ meal – essentially the Eater dinner served at places like Café Boa, to celebrate the Christian holiday.
As per an article in The Arizona Republic, a lot of bunny-lovers have apparently been upset at the though that some people celebrated Easter by feasting on their ‘cute and soft’ pet animal for dinner. The article also revealed that Café Boa received more than 100 messages from the rabbit-loving community about the ‘rabbit’ dinner.
Irked at the thought that the adorable bunnies were cooked for Easter dinner, a rabbit rescue organization volunteer Doreen O’Connell said in the article: “Like any pet owner, when you see that on a menu you think how could somebody take my sweet pet and slaughter it and eat it?”
Though animal lovers in general are hurt at the thought of animals been eaten, the singling out of the rabbits – for the mere reason that they are soft, cute and cuddly pets – appears to be a flawed logic on the part of the rabbit lovers. Why is there no hullabaloo when other animals - chickens, turkeys, cows, deer, pigs, etc. – are cooked for a meal?
Generally speaking, for an animal lover, the outward appearance of an animal should not be the basis on which people should make decisions about consuming them!
