After having launched its much-awaited iPad tablet on April 3, Apple now has something new for its aficionados to look forward to - the Thursday, April 8, unveiling of its version 4.0 of the iPhone operating system, at
10 a. m. Pacific time, at Apple's Cupertino, California, headquarters.
The iPhone OS' version 4.0, which the company has been touting as "the future of the iPhone OS," is the next generation of Apple's smartphone operating system and supposedly boasts feature like third-party multitasking. Among the other rumors abound about the forthcoming iPhone 4.0, some sources have forwarded the information that the new iPhone operating system probably takes its design and functionality cues from the Expose feature of the Mac.
Furthermore, a March 31 report on the AppleInsider blog cited `inside' sources to reveal that with the iPhone OS 4.0 enabling multitasking for third-party applications, it would compete with smartphone platforms like Google Android, which have largely been touting their multitasking capability as a leading edge over the iPhone.
AppleInsider bloggers Kasper Jade and Prince McLean said in their blog post that the third-party multitasking ability of the iPhone OS 0.4 "will finally allow users to launch multiple apps in the background and quickly switch between them. Apple initially avoided an app model supporting multiple apps running at once to help preserve the battery life and simplify the user experience."
