Men more prone to have chlamydia

According to a new research, men who took a chlamydia test were twice as likely to have the infection as women were.

According to figures released by Lloydspharmacy, men who bought chlamydia tests from its online doctor service had about 13 per cent being tested positive as compared to just 6 per cent of women customers.

Chlamydia if left untreated can lead to fertility problems and it is the most common bacterial sexual infection.

A survey conducted on about 3,000 people stated that about 13 per cent men accepted having unprotected sex with more than one woman during the past five years, as compared with seven per cent of women.

Clare Kerr, Lloydspharmacy's head of sexual health, said, "This is particularly worrying as many STIs, sexually transmitted infections, don't have any obvious symptoms, so men could be putting both themselves and their partners at risk by delaying tests. Removing the need to see a GP or visit a GUM (genitourinary medicine) clinic will encourage men to test themselves regularly."
