After having updated its iPhone OS to iPhone 0.3 version in March last year, adding a notable ‘cut, copy and paste’ feature and MMS to it, Apple will now apparently give a sneak peek at its forthcoming iPhone 0.4 OS version at a press event at its Cupertino, California, headquarters on Thursday, April 8.
With the next-generation iPhone OS 4.0 speculations bringing Apple in limelight once again – close on the heels of the April 3-launch of the much-hyped iPad -, there is evident excitement about changes Apple will introduce by the way of the revised iPhone OS version.
The MacWorld wishlist about what Apple should add to the iPhone OS 0.4 include, among a list of other things, seven features, namely: pervasive multitasking; enhancements in home screen and app management; improved notification system; wireless syncing; media streaming capability; better Bluetooth support; and improvements to iPhone OS Mail.
With assumptions galore that the forthcoming iPhone OS 4.0 version will essentially allow third-party multitasking, Nick Gold, senior account executive for Baltimore, Md.-based Chesapeake Systems, said: “Multitasking does seem to be the main focus that many people are looking for in the update.”
Noting that even though the current iPhone version is capable of multi-tasking, Nick added that, at present, “only Apple's own applications like Safari and the iPod software can run in the background.”
