The Government of Manipur has issued warning to private hospitals and clinics to not employ any medical professional who is already registered as a Government doctor/specialist and in case the rule is not followed by the private undertakings, it will lead to cancellation of their registration.
The warning was announced by Y Yaima, who is the Director of Health Services. In an office discussion, the Director commented that it has come to the notice that the death toll is rising in the private hospitals and all the death victims have been found to be treated by the Government doctors who do not have the permission to do private practice. They are also availing the non- practicing benefits.
The Government is acting transparently but it is missing out one aspect which is certainly important and that is to punish the Government doctors and specialists who are defaulters. No rules related to the punishment to be given to these doctors have been chalked out.
The observers are demanding that the Government must also lay out the kind of punishment to be given to the defaulters as soon as possible.
